New projects, new time, new agenda

3 Jul

Hello everyone!

July has started really well for me this year, so well that I never thought I was going to use an agenda so much in summer.

During my last trip to London, I bought this lovely one in Paperchase with its corresponding pen and propelling pencil. Since one of my favourite things of agendas is decorating them, that’s how I have started. From the very first page. I have used this cute sticker of Alice in Wonderland from Lycka (I have loooots of stickers from there I will show you little by little).

I hope you join my agenda and get ready to share and enjoy all the posts that are coming…

DIM (I’ll do it MYSELF!)

22 Jan

DIM (I'll do it MYSELF!)

Yes. I know. I’m not writing as much as I promised. Unfortunately, I never get the time I’d wish to do it. There’s always something more important or I just simply forget it. Sorry.
Anyway, I have to admit that these last months have been full of work, adventures, travelling… so not a waste of time at all!
Today, I want to show you my brand new “lunch box”. It has a lot of imagination and future creations inside since lately, I’m very much into DIY: specially working with washi tapes and doing stamps.
In my next post, I’ll show you what’s inside…

As you know, this blog is about “a little bit of everything”. That’s why I’m writing about one of my new favourite shops: LYCKA. This is a lovely shop in the heart of Granada (Spain) ready to satisfy all kind of people and homes with the trendiest designs from all over the world: art prints, t-shirts, mugs, roomies, trays…

Pamper yourself for a while and pop in the shop or visit their page. You’ll just fall in love with these guys and with everything they have to offer you.

We do not leave, they make us leave

Merry Christmas!

22 Dec

Long time without writing here… (shame on me!). But I promise I will be more asiduous next year.
Today’s message is to wish you merry Christmas and a very happy 2013.

Time for brownies!

18 Oct

This week, I want to share this recipe that a teacher gave me in London. Though I’m not a chocolate lover, I must confess I really like brownies (specially hot and with some vanilla ice cream!). These are the ingredients:

– 50 gr. dark chocolate

– 110 gr. butter

– 200 gr. white sugar

– 50 gr. flour

– 2 beaten eggs

– 2 handfuls of nuts

PREPARATION

Preheat the oven to 170º. Melt the chocolate and the butter in different recipients. While the butter gets cold, mix in a bowl the sugar, the flour, the eggs and the nuts. Once they are mixed, add the chocolate and the butter. Blend very well.

Pour the mixture in a buttered mold and put it in the oven during 20 – 25 minutes. Pierce the centre with a toothpick. If it is dry, it’s ready to remove!

Anglicisms

29 Sep

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, an anglicism is “a characteristic feature of English occurring in another language”. Spanish is one of those languages, of course. Are we really borrowing words we need or are we just giving our language the cold shoulder?

Bye bye summer!

Summer is gone, but since September has started so well to me, full of new projects and goals, I am very happy. For that reason, today I just want to share this song with you. Let the sun fill in our window!

The chaos of English spelling

31 Aug

One of the most difficult things for English learners is spelling and pronunciation. Why the “k” is not pronounced in “knight”? Why “th” does not sound the same in words such as “theatre” or “that”? Well, this is the result of the constant language change and its development along the years. Don’t blame the history. We are all part of these changes in our own language.

For a clearer and better explanation of it, read this article by David Crystal and watch this funny video about the history of English. You’ll love it!

“Más Batman y menos “My tailor is rich””

26 Aug

foreign-language-pictureWe all know that learning a second language is not such an easy thing. For that reason, teaching it must be something very practical and not that theoretical. Today, I’ve read this article by Camen Posadas that I really enjoyed and it is quite related to my master dissertation. Just with some effort, we can create an entertaining lesson in which students will find out the way to a better communication and feeling attracted to the new language.

Have a look at it. It’s a good suggestion for a Sunday morning and a thought-provoking article now that the next academic course is coming.
